5 Quarantine Activities to Keep You Sane
By: Damaris Villalva Cruz | Marketing Manager
As this quarantine period continues to persist, it can be difficult to keep a positive outlook and stay productive. During these times it is normal to feel isolated, overwhelmed, and stressed with everything that is going on in the world. To tell the truth I did have a hard time getting used to working from home. It took me about two weeks to get into my head that this was going to be the normal for a while. That doesn’t mean that I don’t get stressed from being stuck at home every now and then. However, I have found that the more things I have to keep me busy the less I feel like I’m stuck at home. So, in these last few weeks of staying home, here are some activities that you can try to help yourself finish strong.
Baking
I have never liked cooking or going near a kitchen. That is not my specialty but I love eating sweets and desserts. So, given the circumstances, I decided to give it a try! It turns out that I’m not really good at it. I love challenges and it has been a fun challenge but not necessarily a very successful one. So far I have made a cheesecake, cupcakes, churros (which came out terrible) and cinnamon rolls. Since it can take a large amount of time depending on the recipe I like to bake during the weekends when there is nothing else to do.
Go for a run
Getting exercise is very important any given day. I have always loved to run because it helps me clear my mind. There is something about being in that moment where nothing else matters except your body and that wind in your face. Running or going for a walk has always been relaxing and helps me relieve stress so I do this as often as I can while I'm at home.
Walk you dog or have fun with your pets
If you have pets you know they are the best distraction. I have a lot of animals at home and I love to spend time with them. Their cuteness brings joy to my life especially with everything going on around in the world at this current time.
Have regular calls with others
Talk to your friends and family. Just because we are in isolation at home doesn’t mean that you have to be alone. Take this time to contact your friends and family, even if it’s just a quick call to check on them. Let them know you are thinking of them. Have virtual movie nights! Set a time where you can all come together and watch a movie. Social interaction is crucial to our well being so daily interactions with others is key.
Have a regular schedule
When I’m at home it can be hard to keep up with a regular schedule. However, it’s important to keep a routine during this season, to help with productivity and give you a sense of normalcy. A daily routine provides structure to our everyday life. Routine is good because when things become familiar and comfortable it allows us to get into a flow for our day. Having a set routine forces us to prioritize and decide what is important to us. This will also help you be more productive if you are working from home.
While it may be difficult and stressful staying at home, it is necessary in order to stop the spread of the disease. So, stay home, keep yourself safe, experiment with new things, and try the things that you always wanted to try. This is the time where you can get caught up on things that you were putting off. Whether it's renovating your kitchen, spring cleaning, reading a book, or writing a blog. The main goal is to keep yourself busy. Make it fun. Don’t think of it as a chore. Find a few things that work in your life. Figure out what works for you in this current situation. Soon, we will begin transitioning back into normality, so don’t let yourself regret all of the things you didn’t get done when you finally had excess time.
